Q: Can I keep two hedgehogs together?
A: Never keep two male hedgehogs in the same cage. They will fight to the death.
Female hedgehogs also prefer to be alone. The only time it may be ok to keep two females together, is if they are sisters - and are used to being together.
Q: What is Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome (WHS)?
A: Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome is a neurological disease. The first sign of the disease is that your hedgehog will start to wobble a little, and has a hard time eating and moving around. It will starve, and then quickly pass away. Research is being done to better understand this disease. While not a lot is known about this disease; it appears that it is not contagious, and is likely hereditary.
Q: Are Hedgehogs legal/illegal in my area?
A: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW THE LAWS PERTAINING TO YOUR AREA. We do not want to endanger any Hedgehogs by allowing them into areas that do not permit them. The following list is provided as a starting point, but should be further researched for your specific location.
Hedgehogs are illegal in California, Pennsylvania, Hawaii, and Arizona. They are also illegal in the city of Denver, Colorado; parts of New York City, New York; and Douglas County, Nebraska.
Finally, some regions require special permits to possess a Hedgehog. These include New Jersey, Vermont, and Georgia.
